I am Canadian.

I have lived in Canada over half my life and today I became a Canadian.  I'm not sure why I didn't do it sooner. It was a very nice ceremony, and LM was so good watching with DH, we took her to the playground as a reward. Took a great picture of her with the "Mountie" that was there.

I also did some sewing this week. I started the week with sewing on LM growth chart. This had been sitting for some time as I had quilted one side and wasn't sure how I wanted to do the other. I decided that I wanted to outline the picture and started making good progress. Hopefully you can see it in this photo.
Then part way thought the week I decided that I wanted to make a couple of rag quilts for two new babies from church. I decided I was going to use the fabric I had but I wanted them not to be the same. On the first one, which is ready for clipping, I used all of the pick fabric with ducks and none of the blue flowers.
For the second one I use the blue flower and no pink ducks, but as I was putting them together I found that some of the fabric I liked better in one or the other. I'm happy with how they look the same but different. This one is ready for the blocks to be sew together. I do put them up on the design wall but don't spend much time in getting them perfect, I think that's some of the charm of a rag quilt.
For hand work I finished the stitching on my snowman ornaments, now it goes in the pile waiting for sewing. Planning on getting these done in time for Christmas (This year!)

More Heritage Park Quilt Show

As I walked around the show there were several quilts that for one reason or another just made me smile and these are what I thought I would share with you today.
As you can see there are a few different things that made me smile for the cute little stitchery with matching button  or wall applique that I would like to make. There are the quilts that are in bright colours or of fun subject, out of the kid's one I think the sheep made me smile the most. Of course there are the quilts that remind me of home.
I think the quilt that made the most people smile at the show was this one, it was also a bit of an age test. I saw it in re-runs but the ones who grew up with it were quick to point this out as the bus and logo for "the partridge family" I just love it.

Red and White at Heritage Park Quilt Show.

This weekend was the annual Heritage Park Quilt Show. I went Saturday with a friend and it was a lovely cool sunny day.  I love when the weather cooperates and you get to see the quilts hanging out side.
I also liked that its a not judged show so you get quilts of all skill levels, here are the two quilts I put in this year.  My red and white as well as the small bear stitchery.

This years show included a special red and white display,. Here are just a few of the red and white quilts that where hanging in the red and white barn.
There were lots of wonderful quilts all aver the park I will share more over the next week.

Red and White Finished

This week I finished a couple of things -yeah!.  My first finish was my red and white quite. Sorry it's not a very good photo.  We share our progress on the red and white at guild on Monday evening, as this is the last meeting prior to the Heritage Park Quilt show. Where there is going to be a Red and White quilt display. One of the ladies was going to take it to drop off for the show for me and I realized I had not taken a photo, so I took this one quickly, but will take better ones either at the show or once I have it back.

I was thinking this was going to be a baby quilt but it turned out a lot bigger than I was thinking. It more a good lap size.
I also finished LM Dress. I hemmed it by hand at the guild meeting as I was having trouble getting my head around the bind hem on my sewing machine. Someone show me how- I was just looking at it backwards, will have to try it on the next one.
I cut out another dress in this pattern with some fabric I saw in the sale bin at Canmore. It will even go with the two left over red buttons.

Fairmont Sewing

I have unpacked and remember to take photos. While in Fairmont I worked mostly on my Farmer's Wife blocks. I even did a couple of the harder ones. This was good as I knew I needed to get away from just doing the simple ones. I got 9 blocks completed and am super happy with how these are turning out.

I even reworked the block I wasn't happy with from last week.  I didn't want to redo the whole thing but needed to remove some of the blue.
I took a couple of smaller items for when I needed a change.  I added the boarder to my tall stitchery and made the little bag I shared in the last post.
Of course I had to make a stop at Suger Pine on the way home.  I wanted to get a few more teals and a cream with brown.  Since I picked up most of my fabrics a few years back the teals have moved from blue teal to green teal so it may be harder to get extra fabric than I thought.  I did pick up a couple, most of these are quite small. I think they will add some variety to the blocks. Not sure if all of these will work but will find a use for all of them.

I am really enjoying the famer's wife quite and it was a great project to take with me.

Fairmont

Had a wonderful couple of days in Fairmont.  One of the ladies from guild was staying out there for the week and asked if any of use would like to join her.  A few when down for the weekend and some for the week I was able to go down Sunday and back Tuesday.  The only wildlife I saw this trip was some deer both down and on the way back.
The unit we were staying in had lots of room for sewing and socializing. I think the most we had there at one time was 6 on Monday, but still lots of room.
Here is the view for the balcony where we stopped sewing long enough to enjoy a glass of wine or something to eat.  Monday evening we soaked in the hot spring while watching the sun set, it was wonderful. This was a fantastic couple of days full of laughter and fun.  There are still a few there, for the rest of the week and I know they will have a great time.

This is a photo I took from the side of the highway on the drive back. I love driving in the mountains it's just beautiful.
Here is one of my project , this is the only one I remember to take a photo of while I was there. It's a bag made from 2 fat quarters. I fell in love with the sheep fabric and had to make something out of it. I will share what else I worked on once I unpack and take photos.

Dress

I was inspired by kid’s clothes week and here is the first bit of clothing I have ever made for Little Miss. I still need to hem it but am quite pleased with how it turned out.

Now I'm heading out the door for a couple days in Fairmont B.C.

Loosing focus

Hello May, boy did you come fast this year. Time just seems to be flying, does that meant I getting old? No, don't answer that. LOL

This last weeks I just couldn't seem to focus on one thing.   the most I got done on any item was Friday night I visited a friend for a sewing evening and made two Farmers wife blocks. I think I will be reworking this first one, there's not enough contrast and it just reads like a bit block of blue when I mix it with the other blocks, I am thinking of just changing out the half square triangles.
I am much happier with this block, I really like the brown fabric, this is one of the ones that I only have a 10inch square off so want to make the most of it.

I did a bit of work on my snowman ornaments.  It took me more time to unpick the snow-angle halo than anything else.
I did start working on adding the binding on my red and white quite. This won't take long now its just the handwork.
After seeing all the kids cloths last week I decided that I wanted to make LM a dress. Now I normally don't sew clothes, I made myself PJ pants a few years back and decided that was the end of me making clothes. But like I said seeing all the cute outfits got me inspired.  I have drafted the pattern and made the lining which I want to check for size before cutting into the main fabric.

Hopefully I will be able to focus a bit better next week and may even get a finish.
